STEM education- Operation Outbreak
Bring Operation Outbreak to your school! Operation Outbreak<https://operationoutbreak.org/> is an innovative platform for STEM education on infectious diseases and outbreak preparedness created by Sarasota Military Academy Prep school and the Sabeti lab at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT. It is an opportunity to use an app to simulate the spread of an infectious disease amongst student participants. Students can learn about social behaviors, infectious diseases, and interventions. The app records anonymized interactions and tracks the spread of the virtual pathogen. Operation Outbreak is available to anyone in the world and the app creators are willing to assist with conducting simulations.
International Overdose Prevention Day (August 31)
According to data from the CDC National Vital Statistics System<https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/drug-overdose-deaths.htm>, the rate of overdose deaths has increased by over 250% since 1999. This increase is related to both prescription opioids, illicitly manufactured synthetic opioids such as fentanyl and stimulants. If you or someone you know struggles with a substance use disorder, help is available. Visit FindTreatment.gov<https://findtreatment.gov/> or call the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357.

* Stop Overdose<https://www.cdc.gov/stopoverdose/index.html> is a CDC campaign that educates people who use drugs about the dangers of fentanyl, the risks of mixing drugs, how to use naloxone to reverse overdoses, and the importance of reducing recovery and treatment stigma. Stop Overdose is also available in Spanish<https://www.cdc.gov/stopoverdose/es/index.html>.
* Rx Awareness<https://www.cdc.gov/rxawareness/index.html> is a CDC campaign that shares the stories of people whose lives were impacted by prescription opioids.
