Resource Spotlight
New EPA website focusing on impact of heat on health
The EPA has partnered with other federal agencies to launch the new website, Heat.gov<https://www.heat.gov/> to serve as the premier source of heat and health information for the nation to reduce the health, economic, and infrastructural impacts of extreme heat. Heat.gov is the web portal for the National Integrated Heat Health Information System (NIHHIS).
Database: HRSA Maternal and Infant Health Mapping Tool
The Maternal and Infant Health Mapping Tool<https://data.hrsa.gov/maps/mchb/>, developed by the HRSA Maternal and Child Health Bureau, is an interactive online resource that provides county-level data on maternal and infant health indicators such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and access to prenatal care. Data is available for AI/AN, Asian, Black, Latino, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, and multi-racial populations. This tool was designed to help federal, state, local, and Tribal decision-makers and others visualize maternal and infant health factors to understand existing needs and target resources.
Health Literacy Pre-K - 12 and beyond
Developing personal health literacy-the ability to find, understand, and use health information and services-should start early in life. The resources from the CDC<https://www.cdc.gov/healthliteracy/education-support/schools.html> can help childcare providers, early childhood educators, K-12 (kindergarten through grade 12) teachers, and university faculty recognize and respond to students'-and their family members'-health information and communication needs.
