National Minority Donor Awareness MonthNational Minority Donor Awareness Month
August is National Minority Donor Awareness Month<https://www.organdonor.gov/professionals/observances#:~:text=August%3A%20National%20Minority%20Donor%20Awareness%20Month>, a time to address the main challenge in transplantation: the gap between the need for organ transplants and the supply of donated organs. Minority communities have disproportionately higher rates of diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease which contribute to organ failure and the need for an organ transplant. Over 100,000 people are currently on the national transplant waiting list, with more than 60 percent representing racial and ethnic minorities<https://www.organdonor.gov/learn/organ-donation-statistics/detailed-description#fig4>. This National Minority Donor Awareness Month, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA):

* Demonstrates the need for more organ, eye, and tissue donors within multicultural communities<https://www.organdonor.gov/learn/organ-donation-statistics/detailed-description#fig4>.
* Provides donation education<https://www.organdonor.gov/learn> and outreach materials<https://www.organdonor.gov/professionals/outreach-materials>.
* Encourages donor registration<https://www.organdonor.gov/sign-up>.
* Promotes healthy living and disease prevention to decrease the need for transplantation.

In addition, join the Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs' National Minority Donor Awareness Panel<https://hrsa-gov.zoomgov.com/meeting/register/vJItf-ChpjsuHUaqx6CeqeGMuhlWxoZDkRc> 90 minute webinar to highlight the need for more ethnically diverse organ donors, strategies to create equitable access to transplantation, and myths and misconceptions regarding organ donation in the Latino community. Attendees will also hear from individuals who have personal experience with organ donation and transplantation. August 17 at 5:00 a.m. SST, 6:00 a.m. HST, 8:00 a.m. AKDT, 9:00 a.m. PDT, August 18 at 2:00 a.m. ChST
NOTE: this webinar is being offered entirely in Spanish with live English translations.
