Postdoctoral Fellowship in Human-Centered Design, Implementation Science, and School-Based Mental Health Services
The University of Washington’s (UW) ALACRITY Center (https://www.uwalacrity.org/<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.uwalacrity.org/__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!mmCxH2G783nVdryRhWghk8gky5nByZ5ExptJlz9q-kuanUoDC77LP9TWByRvw88m-94Q2EKmjA$>) and SMART Center (https://smartcenter.uw.edu/) are recruiting a joint postdoctoral fellow to conduct research at the intersection of human-centered design (HCD), implementation science (IS), and school-based mental/behavioral health services (SMH). The UW ALACRITY and SMART Centers – and the Departments of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Human-Centered Design and Engineering – are dedicated to the goal of building a culturally diverse and pluralistic faculty and staff committed to teaching and working in a multicultural environment. We strongly encourage applications from women, minorities, and individuals with disabilities and those with a dedicated interest in working with underserved communities.
The selected applicant will work closely with faculty from UW ALACRITY and SMART who will serve as mentors surrounding the completion and dissemination of research examining the usability, adaptation, and implementation of evidence-based psychosocial mental/behavioral interventions, especially in (but not limited to) the K-12 education sector. The ideal candidate will have relevant research experience in one or more of the three key areas – HCD, IS, SMH – and a strong commitment to develop expertise in the remaining areas. This position will conduct all elements of the research cycle, including grant writing, designing methods, data collection, analysis, and dissemination. The Fellow will benefit from access to broader training opportunities within the UW ALACRITY and SMART Centers.
Appointments will be made for one year, with a second-year re-appointment possible based on review of the fellow’s progress. Fellowships will be available for start dates as early as July 1, 2024, although there is flexibility. The stipend is anticipated to be $70,650 annually, plus standard UW postdoctoral benefits (https://hr.uw.edu/benefits/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2020/03/benefits-postdoc-scholar-fellows-20230701_a11y.pdf).

About the UW ALACRITY Center, SMART Center, UW, and Seattle:
Funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (P50MH115837; PIs: Lyon & Munson), the UW ALACRITY Center is dedicated to the intersection of implementation science and human-centered design. Our research promotes the contextually-appropriate and iterative adaptation and implementation of evidence-based mental health interventions to improve the adoption and sustainment of high-quality services in underserved communities.
A collaboration between the UW Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, College of Education, and School of Social Work, the SMART Center facilitates more effective and integrated approaches to conducting research and providing technical assistance surrounding school-based mental and behavioral health. Multiple projects – primarily funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and the Institute of Education Sciences – seek to design and test contextually-appropriate interventions and pragmatic implementation strategies for use in the education sector.
The University of Washington is the U.S.’s leading public research university. It provides an exciting scholarly environment and opportunities for interactions with faculty across disciplines. The UW ranks 91st out of over 2300 schools on overall diversity, providing extraordinary opportunities for students, fellows, and faculty to get to know others with different cultures and backgrounds. The UW also hosts a nationally recognized Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity and Multicultural Outreach and Recruitment Office, which works to provide programs and opportunities to attract, prepare, and increase the number of racially and ethnically underrepresented students who successfully matriculate at the University. In addition to its natural beauty, Seattle is a diverse and socially conscious community. Seattle is on the forefront of technological innovation, making it a center of entrepreneurial and funding opportunities. With a nearly incomparably vibrant arts, live music, and dining scene, there is no shortage of things to do or cultural events to experience.
Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest, CV, and list of three references to Ms. Brittany Mosser (bmosser at uw.edu<mailto:bmosser at uw.edu>). Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis, but for full consideration applications must be received by December 1st.
